Incoming President Rodrigo Duterte said he is willing to give legal advice to Tanauan City Mayor Antonio Halili, who parades suspected drug pushers and rapists.

“I have not done that sort of thing during my time, but kung ginawa niya okay lang, I will support him. I’ll give him all the legal advice as a lawyer,” Duterte said in a report on News To Go.

The mayor ordered the "Flores de Pusher," a part of his walk of shame campaign, of 11 suspected drug pushers arrested in Tanauan City on Monday.

Recently, the mayor also paraded suspected rapists and thieves.

The Commission on Human Rights had said that it will file charges against the mayor and other Tanauan City officials behind the walk of shame of suspected criminals.

Duterte said that in the legal point of view, the walk of shame is not allowed.

“I am a lawyer, and I know that we are not supposed to do that. But I would not begrudge the mayor,” Duterte said.

“Kasi ako, galit rin ako sa droga. Baka hindi na kita iparade, idiretso na kita,” he added.

Known as a staunch advocate against drug use, the incoming president said in earlier reports that he wants to impose death penalty by hanging for drug-related heinous crimes.

MANILA - A town mayor who is a self-confessed fan of presumptive president Rodrigo Duterte ordered seven suspected drug pushers to take "a walk of shame" in Tanauan, Batangas Wednesday.

Tanauan Mayor Antonio Halili made the suspects walk around the town market while bearing a sign saying, "Ako'y drug pusher, 'wag tularan."

Some residents agreed with the way the alleged suspects were treated.

But the suspects lamented that their punishment was unfair because the charges against them were not even proven yet.

This is not the first time Halili ordered a suspected criminal to do a walk of shame.

The mayor came under fire in 2012 when he ordered a suspected thief of dried fish to do the walk.

The man was made to walk around the public market with his hands bound behind him and a plastic bag of "tuyo" tied to his wrists. He was also ordered to apologize to the dried fish vendor that he allegedly victimized.
